New favorite show

Have you seen American Pickers on the History Channel? It is my new favorite show. I don't know how many times I have driven by someone's home and thought, "I wish I could knock on their door and ask them if I could look around and see what I can find." These lucky guys get to do that and they have their own show! Lucky! It's so fun to watch and see what they "pick", for how much they pick it and how much it is valued at. I guess when I go yard saling I am kind of doing that. In fact, here are a few of my recent picks! This awesome clock was laying on the ground at a recent yard sale with a 50 cent sticker on it. I kept going over to it and finally decided to snatch it up. I thought I would only be out 50 cents if it turned out to be a piece of junk. I took it home to my husband and he fixed it right up. The top piece and finial were inside the clock so it was better than I had originally thought. It is amazing what a little cleaning and fixing up can do!
I hate birds in real life. Actually, I am afraid of them-deathly afraid of them. But cute ceramic ones like this I can handle. I love the green sparkly paint on this cute little guy. He looks pretty darn cute overlooking the flowers in my flower bed out back. I paid $2 for my little birdie.
I love frames, I always have. I am always on the look out for ones that really catch my eye. This big one had a picture in it, I didn't really like the picture or the color of the frame, but I saw past all that and knew with some white paint and some sand paper, I would love it. The little frame was gold-I hate gold-but I was able to see past that too. Sorry I don't have a close up of the detail on these, I will get one soon though! Total cost-$3.50-I will be doing something a lot better with this wall in my dining room, but I have to go picking and find more things!

Why American Honey

It's kind of hard to come up with a name for your blog. There are so many good ones that are obviously taken that I think-if they wouldn't have chose, I surely would have. So why American Honey? Mostly the song by Lady Antebellum-I love it! It's the words that really get me, how childhood and growing up should be pure, sweet and slow, just like honey. I like to think that is how my childhood was. I was never in a hurry to grow up and I think that I really had an All-American childhood, the kind some people only dream about. As an adult now with my own life-a husband, a house, a job, etc. I like to think that it all takes time to really develop into what I want it to be-just like honey. It took me awhile to find my true love and it was definitely worth the wait! My house is a work in process, we are slowly making it into what we want it to be-one room at a time. Then there is my daytime job. I hate it most days, but I know if I stick it out, I will eventually get where I want to be-whether it is a promotion in the company that I work for now, or finally having the time and money it takes to go full time with my event planning business. Life in general should be pure, sweet and slow-just like American Honey!

Tea Party at noon

My niece Sierra turned 5! She wanted to have a tea party and wear her flower girl dress from my wedding. She wanted me to wear my wedding dress too, and as much as I wanted to, I decided I better not. Thank goodness I didn't-it was such a hot day! We were only missing one thing, the tea cups and saucers. Sierra's older brother threw them all away one day, so we didn't have any. But the tea party was still a big hit!
The party guests: Sierra the birthday girl, her best friend Brittany, cousin Madisyn and cousin Hunter.

On the menu for the tea party guests: heart shaped peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwiches and wedding cake shaped ham & cheese sandwiches.

The rest of the food for the tea party guest and everyone else!

The birthday girl with one of her birthday presesnts. She wanted a real baby-so do I! She also wanted chocolate covered strawberries and a strawberry cake. The girl got everything she wanted!!

Happy 5th Birthday Miss Sierra!!

My front porch

I have always loved front porches. Especially the kind that make it seem like you are in a room outside-does that make sense? I have seen porches with beds and dining room tables and TV's-anything and everything that make it seem so appealing. I want a porch, with a white railing all the way around it. I don't have that yet, but I do have a little spot on the front of my house that I am slowly making into a porch. My husband keeps telling me that he is going to put up that white railing I keep talking about, but it hasn't happened yet. I am slowly adding things to make it seem homey, but it's in the works right now. Here is a shot of what I have so far.
See, I have a lot more work to do and a lot more things to find to make it feel like a room outside. I can't wait until it's exactly where I want it to be. But for now, I love my front porch just the way it is!

My favorite room

Happens to be my kitchen. I love the way it has come together. It makes me happy to be in there, cooking for my family or making something sweet for my husband. I really like to find things to use to decorate it too. I always wanted a red kitchen and I had been wanting plant shelves as well, so both of those things were a selling point for me when we bought this house. Our house is small but it suits the two of us well. Here are the things that I love...

My white metal stars. Sure, I could have hung them up somewhere outside, but I loved the look of them all placed together on the shelf.

Live, Laugh, Love-definitely words to live by! They were brown when I first got them and blended in with the red paint, so my husband painted them white for me and they really stand out. I love the scrolly candle holders and the ivy!

This was one of the centerpieces from my wedding. I had a shabby chic/Tiffany & Co. themed wedding. It was beautiful and this candleholder helps make my kitchen more beautiful and brings back wonderful memories!

The window over my sink-I love the ruffly white valance. When the sun shines through in the morning, the stars reflect their respective colors on the floor. So pretty.

Of course, I didn't really show you my kitchen, really just a few of the favorite things in my kitchen. One of these days I will do a full shot of it all, but right now it's a mess and no one wants to see that!

Look at that sky!

I just happened to look out my front window tonight and saw the most beautiful sunset. I only wish I lived high on a hill top so I could get the full view of it. The colors were fantastic. I love sunsets and am constantly taking pictures of them. Here is tonight's for your viewing pleasure!

We have green thumbs!

My husband & I have been planting flowers and the like since we moved into our house 2 1/2 years ago. Nothing really seems to ever grow until this year. Suddenly everything is in bloom and it is beautiful! With all the rain we have been getting lately, things get bigger and bigger every day! I don't know what half of this stuff is called, but look how pretty!
This lily is the prettiest bright orange. I have a red one too, but it bloomed awhile ago. I think these are called clematis. We have some growing up the fence and another growing through the spokes of an old bicycle. I love the purple colors!

This one is my favorite. I have always loved peonies, they remind me of when I was little and my mom had them all over in our yard. The pink color is so pretty too!
And here is some actual green stuff.

There are so many more wonderful things growing in my yard. I can't wait to see how big they get as summer has only just begun!

I had to buy something!

This weekend I went to Miss Gracies & Friends Vintage Barn Sale. It was awesome! I wish I could redecorate my whole house just with stuff from that sale. I walked through 3 different times just to make sure I didn't miss anything. The way it is set up is so cute too with all the different out buildings-it's like a little outdoor mall at a barn. Here is what I got and I didn't spend too much money which was the best part of all!The tag said it was a "pie holder" I think I will use it when I have people over to hold plates and the sides could hold cups of silverware. It even came with the rose garland!I think this cute little birdhouse goes great in my flower box on the front of my house. It goes perfect with all the green I have growing in there!

After that sale, I went to a little store in the town that I live in called Korner Kottage. The prices are unbelievable! You couldn't make it yourself for as cheap as she is selling it.

Can you believe I only paid $15.00 for this birdhouse? I love the black and red-it goes perfectly with my red kitcen walls and my new black refrigerator.

I picked up a few more things, but they are a work in process. So until next time!!

A year ago today...

I married the man of my dreams! I think back to this day, June 13th, a year ago, and still feel head over heels in love with this man! I know, I know-we have only been married a year-we are technically still in the honeymoon stage. I just know that he truly is the person that I will spend the rest of my life with. He truly is everything I never knew I always wanted. Happy 1st Anniversary Cody-I love you!

A new endeavor

I have a few blogs that I read on daily basis. And I often think that I could do it too...so here it is-the start to my new blog. What will it be about? Everything I love-life, love, my home, my family. I love planning events-from weddings to small, intimate events. I love to take pictures of real life. I love to bake and cook. I love to create and be crafty. I love to find new things that make my house a home. I love to go to yard sales and I love to find great deals. I never pay full price for anything! This blog is here for me to show the world (or at least a few people) what I love and hopefully inspire others as well! So here it is-welcome to my life!
