I'm dreaming of a Vintage Christmas

 To me, Christmas really is a vintage holiday.  How I wish I could have lived in the days where you really dashed through the snow in a one horse open sleigh.  A time when Christmas was more than just commercialism and spending money.  I wish I could live in a vintage Christmas world.  Since I am caught right in the middle of Generation X and Y, I will never know what that was like.  But that doesn't mean that I can't pretend!  Here are a few of my favorite Christmas decorations-all vintage of course!
 My antique scale is the perfect platform for a vintage sheet music card.  Below it are some vintage bottle brush trees that I bleached and decorated last year.  There is just something about these creamy colored trees and the rustiness of the scale that is so pretty!
 I started collecting vintage Shiny Brite ornaments a few years ago.  I think they are something I will always be on the look out for.  There is just something about those shiny glass orbs that make my heart smile!  I have put them in a cloche that is serving as a centerpiece on my dining room table!
 What a treat it was to find these two Shiny Brites with Christmas scenes in the middle.  The blue one has a snowman with eyes but no mouth or nose!  The green one has a pipe cleaner candy cane and holly.  I love these so much!
 My aunt had one of these ceramic Christmas trees.  She always had it on top of her TV.  I loved to look at it every time I went to her house.  And of course I always wanted one for myself.  One day while at my husband's work, I noticed this one sitting in a corner, dusty and completely forgotten about.  I told him that if they were ever going to get rid of it, that I wanted it.  When they moved shops last December, they were going to get rid of it and he snatched it up for me.  I am so happy to have my very own vintage ceramic Christmas tree now!
You can't decorate for Christmas without having a Nativity Scene.  This particular set was made by my Great Grandma.  She gave it to my grandma and my grandma gave it to me.  It is made of cast ceramic and is totally solid.  It isn't the prettiest or fanciest Nativity, but I love it.  It means so much to me to have something that was made by my Great Grandma and passed on to me!



I am always on the lookout for more vintage Christmas decorations.  There is just something about them that makes them feel even more festive than the newest decorations out there.  I will take an old, scruffy, vintage Christmas over any of the fancy ones, any day!

    I love all your vintage pieces. I grew up in the mountains with a very non-commercialized Christmas. Looking back now I realize what a blessing that was. I hope you find lots more things- xo Diana

    I love the idea of a vintage Christmas, too! How special that you have your grandma's nativity scene! And I love bottle brush trees, I just bleached some recently myself:)

    I have been fortunate enough to live through several different years f Christmas. They all had advantages and disadvantages. There were some of the old methods and decorations I loved more than the ones today. Had more meaning.

    I am obsessed with vintage Christmas. My entire house is full of it after two solid days of decorating! Something about it just seems cozier and less commercialized than modern decorations.

    Hi Trisha... I just love all of your vintage decorations!... how sweet of your hubby to snatch up the ceramic tree like your aunt had... and your great~grandmother's nativity set... what a precious heirloom... you sound like you are like me... the memories they hold and the stories they tell mean so much more than newer mass produced ornaments and decorations... you are alot younger than me, I am a baby boomer so I grew up with all of these gorgeous decorations... they are not fads or trends... they are whispers from the past... listen closely for the stories they tell!... xoxo Julie Marie PS Signing on as your newest follower...

    I love your vintage decorations. I have a growing collection myself and I just can't get enough. I remember having a tree like your ceramic ones with the small colorful lights on it when I was young - Yours made me smile and took me on a mini memory trip.

    I just love your vintage decor. When my aunt passed away all of us were to receive some of her vintage oranments like those two you have. My cousin who was the executor of her will has kept them all. She didn't want to mail them but I wonder if we will ever get any of them. Yours are wonderful. She never had any children so none of them ever got broken and were in perfect shape.

    I just love your bottle brush trees too. How fun to combine them with your scale. I just love decorating for Christmas!

    Lovely, lovely! I love all your vintage Christmas decor!! I'm doing the same and just got a white ceramic tree from 1971. I also have some plastic Jewell Brite ornaments that I just love. Beautiful!!!

    Vintage style is my favorite Christmas. I love your bottle brush trees and scale. Your nativity is a wonderful heirloom. I have to tell you that I made one of those ceramic trees years ago with my mom and sister. I got rid of it one year because I thought it was out of style. WHAT was I thinking? Now, I would love to have it. My middle daughter inherited my mothers. I enjoy seeing it with her Christmas decor. Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup.     Hi..I love old Vintage Shiny brites also and the Poland ones...I make Christmas wreaths out of them and its a lot of fun..I just give them as gifts to friends and family...the older the better!! Love your blog..I just joined in...Carol
