Made in the 80's

My 30th Birthday came and went!  I don't feel any different, I just know that I am now 30!  Even though I was dreading this age, I embraced it with a party and I am so glad I did.  Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the night!
Me with my parents.  They were such great sports and dressed up.  How do you like my big crimped hair?  My sister worked her magic for me.  I made my shirt and everyone loved it!
These are 3 of my friends from college and also my sorority sisters. Lyndsay, me, Lindsey and Amy.  It was so great having them there.  A few old high school friends showed up too but I didn't get a picture with them...sad.
This is Cody's little sister April and her family-Madisyn, Hunter and Ryan.  The whole family got into the spirit of dressing up 80's style!
The little kids loved the photo booth once they got the hang of it.  Toward the end of the night, everyone just wanted their picture taken and had forgotten about the props!
These are my old work buddies-Debbie, Ashleigh and Kyla.  Joe Dirt in the middle is Kyla's husband Tyler.  He was loving his mullet!
Cody was such a good sport.  He worked so hard helping me get ready for the party and he even dressed up.  This is him as Axl Rose of Guns N Roses fame.  His best bud Jason dressed as Brett Michaels from Poison!
My sister, my neice Bri and me...the 80's called-they want their hair back!
My mom made me a very Smurfy birthday cake.  All the Smurfs were there and they even had a mushroom house.  It was so cute!
So, here I am 30 years old.  Everyone keeps telling me that their 30's were the best decade ever and I hope it is the same for me.  Here is to my best decade yet!

Now that all these parties and weddings are all done, I should hopefully be back to a  more normal blogging schedule...thanks for sticking with me!

Turning 30 in a week-eek!

This is very hard for me to admit, but I can't deny it any longer...I am turning 30 on September 20th! I honestly never thought I would ever be 30. I just thought that I would somehow stay in my 20's forever...I don't know how that is possible, but I thought it would be! So here I am, one week away from reaching this dreaded age, still not exactly sure what I want to do with my life. I remember when my mom turned 30-I was in the 3rd grade. I don't even have any kids yet. Since I can't get around it, I thought I should embrace it. Afterall, you only turn 30 once, right! So I decided to throw myself a birthday party. My
"Made in the 80's 30th Birthday Party" I made invitations and sent them out. I have been gathering toys from my childhood to use as decorations. I am making myself a shirt that says "Made in the 80's" to wear. I am creating a playlist of all the best 80's songs to play. I am downloading all my favorite 80's movies from Netflix to show. I have to find an Atari or a Nintendo for people to play. My drink of choice for the night will be wine coolers. My hair will be crimped, my makeup will be frosted and my jeans will be acid washed. I am going to embrace this birthday and live it up 80's style. Because next year, I am turning 29 again!

Mountain Wedding Weekend

I have been busy planning events and let me tell you-I LOVE IT! Nothing gets me more excited than having an event to plan...I love making sure that every detail-big or small-is coming together. This past weekend, I planned a wedding for my friend Lindsey. Here are some of the pictures I took to share.

This was a small and simple wedding. They weren't expecting more than 50 guests. It took place in Stanley, Idaho. Idaho has been on fire pretty much all summer, and this weekend was no exception. We lucked out and didn't have much smoke at the wedding. But driving home that night, we actually saw flames on the hills...it was crazy! The centerpieces were hydrangeas and wildflowers in Mason Jars, sitting on top of a square of burlap, on top of a brown tablecloth. Simple, but so pretty!
The cake was red velvet with buttercream frosting. My mom made it of course! Each layer had different types of piping, the top layer had a monogram on it. I added the flowers and the bird toppers. Everyone enjoyed the cake after they had a delicious BBQ dinner.
Aisle decorations were shepherd's hooks with lanterns and mason jars with flowers and bows. The colors were purple, lime green and white.I love the background. This view is perfect for their country themed wedding. The Sawtooth Mountains are the perfect altar!
I love this look that Lindsey is giving Josh. This is the second marriage for both of them and I can definitely tell that this is the one that will last forever!
Congratulations Lindsey and Josh! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to plan your wedding. I had a great time! May you live Happily Ever After!

Lindsay's 4th Birthday Under the Sea Bash

Grab your tail & let's make a splash!
Join us for Lindsay's 4th Birthday
Under the Sea Bash!
Not only was this party mermaid themed, there was also a real mermaid as a special guest...I will get to her later. Here are a few of the details from the party. I made the invitations first and everything else matched them. This wreath above was made using purple and aqua tulle, shells and pearls. We used it as the centerpiece on the table, but the birthday girl can hang it on her door after the party.
I scattered shells and glass "bubbles" on the purple tablecloth and put the wreat in the center. The Little Mermaid plates were the only thing with Ariel on them, everything else had a sweet little blonde mermaid. The table setting was simple since it was going to be filled with kids!
This banner has purple and aqua paper, shells and pearls. The font was the same on all printed materials. Each letter is lined with silver glitter. These are the food cards, telling everyone what there was to eat.
The cupcakes are chocolate and rainbow chip, frosted with homemade buttercream tinted aqua and spinkled with tiny white sea pearls. The cupcake toppers were handmade and feature the sweet mermaid, pearls and ribbon.
These cupcakes were for the adults-not quite as fancy but still just as yummy!
The food was simple and light. It was a hot day for sure. The drinks were "Ocean Water" (pouches of Capri Sun) and "Salt Water" (bottles of water).
Here is the main star of the party. When my friend asked if I could plan her little girls birthday party, I knew it had to be something completely unique. I found The Mermaid Lady on Facebook and knew it would be the best party yet! The kids had no idea that this "pool party" was going to be visited by a real life mermaid!
The birthday girl got to pick out a special present from the mermaid's treasure chest. She got a shell bracelet.
The mermaid got into the water and played games with all of the kids.
She was so pretty and so sweet with all the kids.
Needless to say, this was an amazing party! Everyone kept telling me what an awesome job I did planning it-every last detail was appreciated by everyone. I am so glad that I got to plan Lindsay's best birthday party ever!

Vintage Stool Repainted

I finally got around to painting my vintage Cosco stool. I like the way it turned out so it was definitely worth the wait! Can I just tell you that I am not a fan of having to mask things off in order to paint around them?! My husband, who paints cars for a living, couldn't stand to watch me paint this. I will admit I did a horrible job in some places, but it was too hot outside to care too much!
The yellow Krylon spray paint was an almost identical match to the original paint. You can check out the before pictures of this stool here. I did have to do a bit of sanding first and then I primed it. Hopefully it won't go back to rust too soon.It looks wonderful sitting in front of my chippy white door. You have seen the other side of this door here. I think I like the chippier side the best! This stool is the perfect little plant holder out on the patio.
We have decorated it up with a little wooden pansie banner and some old insulator caps. If we need an extra chair, it would work for that too!
I am happy with the way it turned out. Thanks to everyone who weighed in on the paint or not to paint debate!

An update on Baby Travis: the treatment looks like it is starting to work. His swelling has gone down and they will be doing Chemotherapy every Wednesday while making sure that he is not feeling any pain. Thank you to everyone who offered up their prayers...they are greatly appreciated and still needed!

Say a prayer for baby Travis

My friend's little boy Travis was just diagnosed with an extremely rare form of cancer in his throat not even a week ago. His mom noticed a lump on the side of his neck and immediately took him to the hospital. When they figured out what it was, they rushed him to a children's hospital in Salt Lake that specializes in cancer treatment. This particular form of cancer is resistant to radiation and their only hope is Chemotherapy along with surgery. He is only 5 months old and is sedated so that he isn't in pain. His Chemotherapy started today and at this point all they can ask for is prayers. I can't even imagine what this is doing to his family. I ask for your prayers for Travis and his family at this most difficult time in their lives.

A helpful husband brings wonderful things

My husband is a very hard worker. When someone asks him for help, he never says no. This past weekend his boss asked him to help move his wife's floral shop to a different location. Of course Cody said yes and he spent his whole weekend moving. Luckily for me, my husband also knows the kinds of things that I love. When they were going to throw out all these amazing things, he told them that I would love them and brought them home to me. Can you imagine throwing this stuff out-for shame!
This single paned antique window with window box will soon be finding its way into my living room. The chippiness of the paint makes my heart flutter! This 3 paned vintage window is in such wonderful condition. I think I might put some pictures in each pane and hang it somewhere in my house. So many lovely possibilities!
I just love this re-purposed bird house made out of old barn wood. It even came on a post so that we can put it somewhere in our yard. I love birdhouses in the yard! He also brought me 9 brand new Scentsy warmers that they were going to trash. I don't need another one, but I might trade out the ones that I don't like for ones that I do and sell them. Seriously, the things people throw out!
Cody also watered his best friends yard while they went to the Oregon Coast. As a thank you for his work, they brought us fresh crab. Last night we had an amazingly delicious surf and turf dinner...wish we could eat like that every night! Having such a wonderfully helpful and kind-hearted husband has really paid off lately. It is true that good things come to those who do good!
