Antique Rocking Chair with Flair


Don't you love this funky fabric?  I knew I wanted something for my rocking chair that would go well with my vintage yellow stool, my vintage aqua bar cart and my soon to be painted vintage pink TV tray.  I looked online to see if there was something that caught my eye but knew I just needed to go to JoAnn's and browse.  After walking through the whole store, I still hadn't seen it and then in the clearance section, I saw this and without any hesitation knew it was the one!  It is called Spring Voile Large Flower Pink and it is exactly what I was looking for!
 Now I am not an expert at sewing by any means and this cushion hardly looks good, but I did my best and it fits.  For right now I have decided to not paint the chair, if I did, it would be painted white.  Maybe one of these days I will paint it.  This cushion adds the right amount of flair!
 I set it next to a round table on the patio and had myself a little picnic.  Lemonade and strawberry shortcake were perfect for this spot.  There was even enough fabric left over to make some napkins and a banner.  I may have to go back and get some more because I love the colors and style!

 Spring is here but there is still a chill in the air so I didn't stay out here long.  Of course I am really looking forward to the warm days that are ahead for us!
 Don't you think this fabric will look perfect with my other patio things?  We are going to put up some drop cloth curtains and really make it a fabulous outdoor living space which I can't wait to share with you soon!

Easter Bunny Bunting

 Spring is finally here...well at least for the next 2 days anyway.  We are supposed to get up into the high 60's with clear sky's and sunshine until Wednesday when clouds, rain and the 40's come back to town.  So while I am enjoying the Spring weather outside, I am also enjoying Spring and Easter on the inside!
 I needed a bunting for my corner with my chippy door.  I bought nothing, using only what I had: burlap, felt, ribbon, twine and pom poms.  I Googled bunny silhouette and found this one that I traced onto felt, cut out and attached to a square of burlap.  I then glued a white pom pom on each one for its tail and a bow on its ears.  I think they are adorable and perfect for Easter!
 No matter how many times I adjusted my camera settings, the flash kept washing out the cute image on my glittered butterfly.  It has a vintage image of chicks in a basket that says Welcome.  I got it from the Dollar Tree.
 I am sure I have told you how awesome my in-laws are, always picking something up for me at yard sales and thrift shops that they think I will like.  They had this antique rocking chair in their living room and when they got a new one, they decided to give this one to me.
 I am already dreaming up how I want it to look, what kind of fabric I will put on the seat cushion, etc.  The only problem is, now I want another one so Cody and I can sit out on the patio and watch the sunset all summer long!

Aqua Cart Love

 The winning color by a long shot was aqua and that made me so happy!  I secretly wanted it to be aqua so when that was the major winner, I knew it was meant to be.  I planned on using spray paint to paint it but my amazing husband had another trick up his sleeve.  He took it to work and painted it in the paint booth with auto paint!  He paints cars so this cart will pretty much last forever now!
 It is a metallic aqua color and has a bit of sparkle in it.  I tried to get a picture of the sparkles but it just wasn't turning out.  Aqua and sparkles-the best combination! 
 Here is a before and after so you can remember what it looked like.  I really did consider leaving it white so that the accessories I add would stand out, but I couldn't resist this color!
 I played around this morning setting up the bar.  It is still too cold outside to have a party, but I can play until then!  I shopped my house and found some great stuff to set it up.
 Come on over to my party and have something in the pitcher, probably margaritas!  Or there is wine, mixers and shots.  I have stir sticks, a citrus juicer, bottle opener and cork screw in the coconut. 
 The middle shelf has a martini shaker and a cute little wooden box with mini shots, fun cups and straws.  The wooden box will be getting a makeover soon as well!
 The bottom shelf has a bucket of beers and a cloche that is just waiting for something fun to be under it.  Hopefully there is something for everyone whenever they come to a party at our house!
 I love my little cart and am really looking forward to warmer weather so that we can host some friends and family for a BBQ.  I think we are all ready for them!
 So I really wanted another little something to paint since this cart turned out so great.  I forgot about this old metal TV tray that I got last summer at a yard sale.  I think it would be the perfect accessory for my cart.  Now here is the question-what color should I paint this one?  Red or pink?
 It is hard to tell now, but they will go perfect together once the tray is painted.  I think Cody will paint this at work too and might even redo my stool so that they will last longer.  Can't wait to share that with you too!
We had our appointment at the fertility doctor on Thursday and got some not so good news.  It turns out that Cody has no swimmers so that is why we haven't been able to have any babies.  We can do further testing to see if he is producing swimmers that may be stuck somewhere, but we have no money so I just don't know what to do.  It could be an easy fix but it could be much more than that.  We have a lot of thinking to do and as you can imagine I am devastated by this news.  Your prayers would be greatly appreciated!

What color should I paint my cart?

 I just love it when I find something I have been looking for!  As soon as I stepped into the estate sale today, I laid my eyes on this amazing metal cart.  The fact that it was half price really sweetened the deal.  I paid $10 for this cart and I can't wait to refinish it soon.
 It looks so perfect next to my vintage metal stool out on the patio.  So here is my question for all my friends, what color should I paint it?  Yellow to match my stool?  Aqua, pink and red are all going to be considered or do I paint it it's original ivory color?  What would you do?
 As soon as I get it painted, I am going to get it all set up to use it as a little bar out on the patio.  I am really looking forward to warmer weather and get togethers and this cart is making me even more antsy for warm weather to arrive!
 This morning I decided to put together a little coffee bar on my vintage liquor cabinet.  My parent's got us this Keurig for Christmas and I hated having it on the counter.  My liquor cabinet in the dining room is the perfect place for it. 
 My white server holds all the necessary things for a great cup of coffee.  Cups on top, cream and sugar on the bottom, Stevia, agave, flavored coffee and tea are all held in vintage tart tins on the side.  There should be something for everyone!
 Even though I personally don't drink coffee, I am loving my little coffee bar set up!  I also love that I can just brew some hot water quickly for tea or cocoa. 
I can't wait to hear what color you think I should paint my cart...you always have the best ideas!

Holy Sheet!

 One of the many boards I have on Pinterest is entitled "Things I am on the lookout for".  It has odds and ends pinned to it of things I need to remember that I want if I ever come across them.  One of the things that I have pinned is vintage sheets.  A couple weeks ago I visited my favorite thrift store and guess what I found?  A whole bunch of vintage sheets!  Jackpot!  There were 4 different patterns and I took them all.  I paid less than $10 for them.  None of them were complete sets but that didn't matter to me.

 Yesterday we visited an Estate Sale and everything was 50% off.  I got another set of vintage sheets for $5.  The top sheet had never been used!  But what am I going to do with all these vintage sheets?
 
I am hoping to make myself a vintage sheet quilt.  I have no idea how to quilt nor can I sew a straight line, but I am bound and determined to make one of these if it is the last thing I do!  Anyone have any pointers for me?  The easier, the better.  It may take me a few years but I will have a quilt one of these days.  And I am still on the look out for more vintage sheets!
My in-laws go down south every year before Thanksgiving and sell Christmas trees.  After their job is over, they head to Lake Havasu to stay warm and hit the flea markets.  My father in law knows that I was on the lookout for gumball machines and look what he brought back for me!
 These dudes are totally getting a makeover of some sort, kind of like the one I did before, or maybe something totally different.  I can't wait to get started on them, whatever it is I decide to do!  But just look at this big, beautiful one that is on a stand!
 Apparently while my mother in law was selling stuff at the flea market, she kept my father in law happy and busy by giving him a weekly "allowance" so he could shop and buy whatever he wanted.  He found this before he got his allowance one day and had to go ask for it early so he could buy this for me.  He knew I would love it and boy was he right.  And how sweet of him to spend his allowance on me!
 I have been wanting a big one on a stand for a long time now and I finally have one!  I think this one will probably stay just the way it is and I can dress up the inside if I want.
  It isn't a super old one but it isn't brand new either.  The brand is Carousel and it has been around since 1913.  I will definitely have to do my research to find out more about it.  Thanks for thinking of me Sonny!
In other news: My nephew's baby was born on Monday.  I still haven't gone to meet her yet, but I will soon.  I love babies so much and holding them is my idea of heaven. 

Are you a Dateline NBC watcher?  Do you remember the episode entitled Deadly Desire?  It took place here in Idaho.  A young, married lawyer had an affair with an older paralegal that he hired and her husband murdered him in a Walgreen's parking lot.  His widow just started blogging about all of it almost 3 years after it happened.  I highly recommend that you check it out.  Her message is so powerful.  When I hear about something like this, I always have so many questions that I wish I could ask and this blog she has started to write is helping to answer these questions.  Many of the stories will bring tears to your eyes but her strength and willingness to forgive is so amazing.  The Moments We Stand is well worth checking out.

Valentine's Day Goodies

 Remember how fun it was to get Valentine's when you were in grade school?  You'd make some sort of a box or bag covered in construction paper hearts.  Then you'd either pick out a box of Valentine's to fill out or make your own.  On Valentine's Day, you would put your Valentine's in everyone's box and open them up.  Even though I am all grown up, I still love getting Valentine's from my friends!  I joined a swap at 521 Lake Street and it was so much fun.  My swap partner was Becky at The Capricious Crafter.  Below is what I sent to her.  Click on her blog name to see all the goodies I sent.

 And here is what she sent me.  I love it all so much!  She made everything so cute and sweet.  All those extra touches were so special to me.
 Every bag had so many fun things and I can't wait to use them in my crafting.  The vintage images are adorable!
 I just love this box.  I have it proudly displayed on my Valentine mantle.  It had chocolates in it (but I already enjoyed them) and a beautiful chandelier crystal.  Do you see those sweet strawberry buttons?  I love strawberries and can't wait to find a fun way to use them!
 She really created some cute tags and cards for me.  Love her style!
 My sweet friend Donna at My Shabby Chateau sent me this pretty little card too.  It has so many of the things I love: sheet music, glitter, red  seam binding and an adorable vintage angel.  Thank you so much for thinking of me Donna-I love it!
 Do you know Miss Jenny from Jenny's Heart?  You should get to know her if you don't.  She is the sweetest friend!  Her New Year's Resolution was to send more letters to those who are dear to her.  I am one of those lucky few who gets a letter each month.  Don't you just love this beautiful card she sent me?  It is the perfect image to set inside my cloche.  Thank you dear Jenny for thinking of me!
 Getting Valentine's as an adult is even better!  Thank you sweet friends!

We got some crazy snow here this past weekend.  It snowed Thursday through Saturday and I loved it.  I had a snow day on Friday so I got a much needed 3 day weekend.  The snow was so beautiful as it fell to the ground.  As long as I don't have to drive in it, it can keep on snowing!  Look at these icicles hanging off of our roof...watch out for those nasty things!
 We haven't gotten this much snow since I was just a little kid.  The bushes around our mail box are buried deep.  I would say we have about 2 feet or more in our front yard.  And since the sun doesn't hit the front yard, it will be there for a long while!  It isn't supposed to snow again for awhile, so it looks like I will have to go to work tomorrow, darn!
I did something to my back today and can tell a trip to the chiropractor is in order.  This does not make me happy at all.  Hope you all had a great weekend and an even better week!

Valentine's Day Decorating

 Yes, I am working on this post smack dab in the middle of the Super Bowl!  But I am pretty good at multi-tasking so it's not like I am missing out on anything.  Plus I wanted to share with you some Valentine's Day decorating.  First up is this heart wreath that I made yesterday.  Thanks to Laurel at The North End Loft for the inspiration!  I am in LOVE with this rag wreath.  I used 6 red shop rags (under $5 for 20 at Home Depot) and one metal hanger.  This is the perfect project to do while watching the Super Bowl.  Just cut strips and tie.  Easy peasy and so adorable!
 Speaking of the Super Bowl, here are the cupcakes that I made today.  Cody requested marble cake with chocolate frosting.  The cupcake papers and picks are from Michael's.  Even though Cody's team-the San Diego Chargers-didn't make it to the big game, we are rooting for the Seahawks since they are closest to us.

 And this is my view while watching the game.  Red wine, won ton tacos, quesadillas and corn bread chili bites were on our menu for today.  My favorite part is that it is just us and the dogs...no entertaining or having to get ready for company!
 I finally put up my Valentine's Day decorations.  I changed it up a bit from last year, but the decorations themselves are the same.
 I am still loving my crepe paper rose topiary and vintage playing card bunting.
 My chippy door is so perfect and makes the red stand out so much more!

 
The mantel has a little bit of red on it too.  Can't leave it out of the festivities!
 Yesterday was my nephew's girlfriends baby shower.  I couldn't bring myself to go but I sent my present with my mom.  They are doing the baby's room in pink and grey elephants so I made them a mobile to match the bedding.  I hear that it was the favorite gift of the day!  That makes me so happy!
 This is the first time I have attempted to sew felt figures and I really love the way these elephants turned out.  The felt is forgiving and you don't have to make perfect stitches.  I used embroidery thread and it really pops.  I hope my new great niece will love this.  I really am looking forward to meeting her and giving her lots of snuggles and loves.
 Here is one last look at my new wreath just because it is so cute and pretty.  I think I might have to make a few more since I have all the supplies on hand.  I can think of a few people who would love one of their own!
So glad that January is done and over with.  I am sure that I am not the only one counting down the days until Spring.  Have a wonderful week!
